the 50mm body lift enables the engine to fit. Don’t think that the alternator would be removable otherwise

Inspirational work!!!
I can't quite tell from the pics if you managed to fit the engine and trans in without modification to the central chassis cross member/vacuum resovoir. I suspect from the length and position of the transmission that you might have cut it out and possibly moved it back, can you confirm this?
If so could you post some pics of that area please?
I'm about to start a similar project (in Australia) with my 1315. In process of shipping an om606/722.6 from your neck of the woods (UK) and I know I will have to make some modifications to this pesky cross member /vac tank.
Thanks for sharing and keep posting,
Cheers Warren.
Yes, you are quite right, the cross member had to go. The 300tdi, auto box and transfer box was too long. It would have fit, just, but I would have had to take the whole engine, gearbox, etc out if I ever wanted to work on any part of it. It would also not have been possible to have the pto hydraulic pump on there.
I'm going to add strength back into the chassis but not bother with replacing the vacuum tank. The one on the front should be OK as the 300tdi uses a vacuum pump rather than just the vacuum in the engine. If not I'll add something else later
